Strategic teamwork to launch and lift.
One small step for man meant millions of steps behind the scenes and a crew of thousands to make the Apollo landing a reality. As home to the Stennis Space Center, Hancock County has a keen appreciation for the importance of precision teamwork. We understand that with the right depth of resources, the right system of support, great projects are launched, new territories are opened and old boundaries are left behind.
Here in Hancock County, the system of support for business and industry is deep, not only in expertise but in commitment to the region. The Hancock Port and Harbor Commission collaborates with nearly a dozen agencies and organizations, each contributing its own unique resources and talents that together create an all-sector, county-wide network dedicated to growth and success.
Dynamic Hancock Chamber: The Hancock County Chamber of Commerce, for example, has generated more than $9 million in grant monies that have been invested in quality of life and business endeavors, including a $3 million revolving loan fund for Hancock business. The Chamber is also a marketing partner to INFINITY Science Center, the $30 million visitor and educational asset drawing millions in tourism dollars even as it brings incalculable advantages to the young minds of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and to the future of the coast itself.
The Hancock Chamber also manages Partners for Stennis Space Center, a volunteer group of businesses and private citizens united to promote NASA’s Stennis Space Center and to facilitate job creation and economic development through programs, projects and events.
The Hancock Chamber also established the Hancock Community Development Foundation as a 501 (c) 3 public charity in 2006 to serves as the ”umbrella” for organizations that enhance economic development and quality of life on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Sponsored funds establish youth scholarships, preserve coast heritage, develop scenic byways, improve and beautify civic spaces, kick-start economic development and foster the arts, ecotourism and youth athletics.
Effective alliances: Membership in multiple regional alliances, including the Mississippi Gulf Coast Alliance for Economic Development and the Gulf Coast Business Council, strengthens our local capabilities, while membership in the International Economic Development Council keeps us abreast of critical global trends.
Resource networks: Our electrical partnerships, with Mississippi Power and Coast Electric Power Association, have allowed us to support industrial growth with high-capacity, low-cost power, while our association with the Mississippi Gulf Coast Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau visitor organization has people around the state and region “turned on” to Hancock County’s beauty and appeal, bringing visitor dollars to the region.
Our state partnerships, with the Mississippi Development Authority and the Mississippi Economic Council, are essential to high-value incentives, powering more new industry in Hancock County.
Together, we are in step, every step of the way, pioneering new growth for our county, our residents, our industry and our region.
