Hancock County Port and Harbor Commission to host three-part workforce series

Hancock County, MS. (Feb 08, 2018) – The Hancock County Port and Harbor Commission will host a free three-part workforce development series beginning March 1. The workshops will be held at various locations around Hancock County - Port Bienville, Hancock Career Technical Center, and Pearl River Community College Hancock Center from 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

"The purpose of the series is to share relevant workforce development information to the business leaders, company representatives and economic development partners in our area and Hancock County" said HCPHC CEO Bill Cork.

In Fall 2017, Hancock County was accepted into the Work Ready Communities initiative set forth by ACT, and January 26th at the Chamber’s Annual Breakfast, Hancock County officially began the process of becoming Work Ready Certified.

Each workshop will feature a variety of speakers, with different backgrounds, who are currently using the ACT WorkKeys for their current staff, potential employees, and for their students.  Each series will be an opportunity for the public to join and ask any questions they may have, in regards to where Hancock County will be headed to bolster the area's workforce for the years to come. These events will be held for, but not limited to, business owners and managers, students and their parents.

The first event of the workforce series is March 1, and the second event is March 20. Confirmed speakers are Donnie Bond with Coast Electric Power Association, Diane Desporte with SABIC,  Jessica Lewis with DAK Americas, Tara Ladner with Hancock County Schools, and Dr. Scott Alsobrooks with Pearl River Community College. The first event of the series will be located at the David N. McDonald Training Center located at Port Bienville; 3060 Port & Harbor Drive, Pearlington, MS 39572.

The third and last event of the series will be April 11th and held at the Pearl River Community College Hancock Center. This part of the series will be more so focused and targeted to the educators in Hancock County, the students and their parents.

Lunch will be provided for each series.
