HCPHC Chief Financial Officer wins award for excellence in financial reporting

Waveland, MS -  October 24, 2016.  On September 28, 2016 the Hancock County Port and Harbor Commission received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its comprehensive financial report for 2015.

“The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of government accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management”, according to a press release issued by the GFOA. 

Janet Sacks, the Commission's CFO was also given an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement for her preparation of the financial report.

“It is with great pride that we get to acknowledge Janet Sacks, our CFO, as she receives this distinguished award from her industry leadership.  Janet works hard at delivering great financial reporting to the Commission and is very transparent and diligent in her work.  I just couldn’t be happier for her professional success and the community should be impressed at how well we steward their resources.” said Robert Kane, President of the Commission.

The Commission’s 2015 annual financial report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the document.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL and Washington, D.C.

The Hancock County Port and Harbor Commission was founded in 1963 to serve as the primary economic development agency for Hancock County, MS.  The Commission owns and operates Port Bienville, the Port Bienville Railroad and Stennis International Airport.
