Jet-a-Way Cafe

January 6, 2016

Million Air offers a long list of services and amenities at its luxury FBO (Fixed Based Operations) at Stennis International Airport, and among the most popular is the home cooking at its Jet-a-Way Cafe inside the new terminal.

The cafe, which offers customers a sweeping view of the runway along with breakfast and lunch, is so popular that Million Air is expanding it in the new year. And that’s not the only side of the FBO that’s growing, according to David Turner, general manager.

“We average 20 airplanes a day, Monday through Friday,” he said. Million Air employees direct all the aircraft in and out of the main ramp area. “We’re involved with every plane that lands at the FBO. We have certified and trained personnel to do that.” Services include fueling, providing auxiliary power generation, and towing planes in and out of hangars.

Inside the terminal, pilots can use the spacious lounges, flight planning areas, the theater room and of course the cafe on the second level.

“We serve about 80 people a day in the cafe,” Turner said. That includes a variety of customers.  “Besides pilots and their passengers we also have folks that work at and around the airport.  Airport tenants that have their airplane at Stennis International Airport will often bring their friends and family out to have lunch at the café.  We also see a lot of the teachers from Hancock High School.”

Work on the cafe’s addition got under way in December and when it’s complete in early 2016, seating will almost double to accommodate the larger lunch rush. “We fill every seat in the cafe almost daily when the weather is good,” Turner said. The cafe is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and hours will be expanding to 6 p.m. shortly after the new year.

The cafe crew also does catering for air crews who come through Stennis International. “They will call us and request crew meals and sometimes meals for their passengers as well,” he said.

It’s all part of the comprehensive services provided by Million Air. “Our job is to take care of the crew and their passengers,” Turner said. “We provide rental cars and have luxury courtesy cars they can use for short periods. We also make hotel reservations and restaurant recommendations if they’re going in to town.”

Turner said Million Air’s goal is to provide comprehensive and quality service. “If they have any kind of problem, we are the one-stop shop for oil, hydraulics, for any kind of servicing, we get them the help they need.”

Million Air’s emphasis on service has resulted in more business year after year. Turner said 2015 was a good year. “We have had significant increases in business since we opened the doors here in 2012,” he said. “In three years we’ve more than doubled our business.”
