Summer brings special visitors and increased activity at port and airport

June 30, 2015

Summer is in full swing in Hancock County, but the rising temperatures and afternoon showers have done little to dampen the activity at Hancock County's industrial assets. Hancock County Port and Harbor Commission employees have been hard at work with the arrival of the summer season, as June has brought with it an increasing number of rail cars on the Port Bienville Short Line Railroad, and flight activity at Stennis International Airport has been near an all-time high.

June has also brought with it several special visitors to Hancock County.

Earlier this month, Stennis International Airport took on a Hollywood flair as we played host to the cast and crew of the new action film "Precious Cargo" starring Bruce Willis.  The airport transformed into a working film set during the weekend of June 13-14 with scenes reminiscent of a busy Hollywood film studio backlot.

Also this month, Port Bienville played host to Gov. Phil Bryant, who was in Hancock County to visit Jindal Tubular's facility at Port Bienville Industrial Park and speak to a gathered group of Hancock County's industrial leaders.

The Governor touted the amazing industrial infrastructure that exists in Hancock County, spoke about the opportunities for continuing growth in Mississippi's manufacturing sector and thanked Hancock County's existing industries for their continuing commitment to Hancock County's economy.

June's newsletter features stories about two of those long-standing industries - SNF Polychemie at Port Bienville and Hot Sticks Manufacturing at Stennis International Airport.  Both companies have continued their steady growth in Hancock County and both companies ship their products to customers at home and abroad.

On behalf of our entire team, we thank all of you for your continuing efforts to make Hancock County the premier place to do business in South Mississippi. We look forward to our ongoing partnership with you as we take Hancock County to new economic horizons and beyond.

Sincerely,

Ashley Edwards
