KILN, MISS—Stennis International Airport will undergo essential runway repair work beginning on or around March 1, 2025. This project, awarded to Warren Paving Inc., is necessary to address subsurface pavement irregularities identified during a routine runway inspection.Â
Â
The planned repairs will involve removing and replacing a significant portion of the existing asphalt surface and subbase within a 350-foot section of the runway. This comprehensive approach will ensure long-term stability and prevent future water damage. Â
Â
The project is expected to take approximately 30 calendar days to complete, with delays possible due to weather conditions. All movement areas, including the runway and taxiways, will be closed to air traffic during this time. Stennis International Airport will issue periodic project updates announcing the expected runway reopening date.Â
Â
Stennis International Airport recognizes the potential disruption this project may cause and has worked closely with the Hancock County Port and Harbor Commission Staff, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) to plan and execute the repairs efficiently.Â
Â
"We understand that this closure will impact airport operations; however, this is the most effective way to ensure the safety and longevity of our runway while minimizing the overall project duration."Â
Austin Jenkins, Stennis International Airport Director
